Situated in the picture perfect harbour of Padstow on the North Coast of Cornwall it was easy to see how owners Katie and Sean Farrington fell in love with the area. World famous for its association with all things Rick Stein ,the couple fell in love with this restored town house in one of the pretty harbour streets and knew it would make the perfect bolthole whilst away from their home in Monmouth. The house had already been restored and reconfigured Katie explains ‘when we first saw it on one of our weekend visits to the town’ but it was basically finished but needed furnishing and turning into a home’. Katie and Sean enlisted the help of Interior Designer Paul Hervey who met the couple in Padstow and talked about what they would like to achieve with the house- Paul recommended  remembers Katie ‘a vintage botanical feel with a  mix of interesting fern fabrics and wallpapers  all offset with a myriad collection of antique and sale room finds such as the old typewriter, the chemistry bottles and jars and all the garden miscellany’.

We loved the idea so Paul and his team set to work to achieve the fern filled interior – Paul used the Sanderson wallpaper as his starting point in the Master Bedroom and used the simple green and grey wool blanket on the bed from Tweedmill to link in all the colours – the simple washed oak framed armchairs in the Lounge from Swoon Editions worked beautifully with the bespoke wool sofa – but it’s the detailing in all the accessorising that really brings the scheme together – Paul explains – ‘I constantly buy vintage items online and in antique shops and from auction rooms so it was exciting to be able to use some of the old garden finds in the house’.

The pallet of greens and greys works beautifully through the house and the feeling of calm and space is evident throughout the interior – Sean explains – ‘We love returning to the house after a day on the beach or a walk along the coast path and either have a simple fish supper on the barbecue in the courtyard garden or wander next door to Paul Ainsworth’s Restaurant for a fine dining experience‘.

‘We just love the calmness and serenity of the interior‘ says Katie and it’s such a contrast from the busy Padstow streets to be in our plant filled haven away from the hustle and bustle‘.
